One of the best features of the Kubota RTV-X1140 is its sheer versatility. Thanks to its innovative converting bed system and transforming headache rack, you can shift from a maximum-capacity cargo hauler to a crew-ready four-seater in a matter of seconds. But as every owner knows, more passengers means more damage. It could be muddy work boots, damp weather, sharp tools tossed into the cab, or the blistering Texas sun, but no matter what, your seats are going to take a beating.
At Black Mountain All Terrain, we believe that hard-working machinery deserves elite-grade protection. That’s why we designed our custom-fit Kubota RTV-X1140 Rear Seat Covers to match the exact standards of our front seat line. Made from high-end, military-grade materials, these covers ensure your converting rear cab stays protected without interfering with your machine's transformation features (and they’ll look better too).
To ensure you get a perfect fit on this unique multi-passenger setup, Kyle from Black Mountain All Terrain has put together a comprehensive video walkthrough. Below, we break down the entire installation process, the essential tools you’ll need, and tips to make the job even easier.
Watch the Walkthrough: Kubota™ RTV-X1140 Rear Seat Cover Installation
Because the rear seating configuration on the X1140 features a split backrest mounted directly to the moving headache rack and an extra-wide bench bottom, the installation requires a few more steps than the front seats.
Tools & Equipment Needed:
12mm ratchet or impact wrench
Optional: Your smartphone (for a quick reference photo)
Phase 1: Transforming the Rear Backrest Cushions
The installation kicks off with the two individual backrest cushions attached to the headache rack.
Gain Clear Access: Start by pivoting forward the rear seat base on the headache rack. This swings the assembly into a position that gives you access to the rear mounting hardware.
Remove the Factory Cushions: Grab your 12mm ratchet or impact wrench and remove the four factory bolts from the backside of each cushion, then set the cushions aside.
Fit the Fabric: Slide your Black Mountain All Terrain cover directly over the cushion, making sure to align the pre-fabricated holes in the cover with the bolt holes on the back of the cushion.
The Pro-Tip for a Flawless Finish: Remember that you are manipulating heavy-duty fabric over dense foam. Don't be afraid to firmly tug on the edges of the cover and push down on the cushion foam to get everything looking the way it should be.
Remount with Care: Put the cushions back in place and reinstall the four factory bolts. Repeat this for the second backrest, lock the headache rack back into its upright position, and you're halfway done.
Phase 2: Tackling the Extra-Wide Rear Bench Bottom
The bottom cushion on the X1140 is substantial, meaning it takes a little extra patience and strategy to wrap smoothly.
Pull the Bench: Pull the factory cotter pins from the mounting brackets on both sides of the seat base. Rotate the bench forward and slide it completely away from the vehicle frame to give yourself room to work.
The Bracket Trap: Flip the bench upside down. You will see six separate metal brackets secured to the bottom frame. Use your 12mm impact to remove them. Pay close attention here: These brackets must be reinstalled in the same location and orientation. Kyle recommends taking a quick snapshot of the layout with your phone before unbolting them, or laying them out in order on your vehicle bed, so you don't lose track of which way they face.
Stretch and Align: Slide the large seat bottom cover over the massive cushion. Because of its size, this cover requires a bit of wrestling. Work your way back and forth from one side to the other a few times to get an even fit. Take the extra time to line the heavy-duty seams up cleanly with the perimeter of the cushion foam.
Re-bolt and Lock Down: Refer back to your smartphone photo and reinstall the six underside brackets in their proper spots and orientations. Drop the large bench back onto the RTV frame, line up the primary bracket pins on both sides, and re-insert your two factory cotter pins to lock it home.
